Computer Numeric Control is the control of a machine tool using text strings to represent specific motions and actions. Quite often a piece of equipment will be referred to as a CNC Milling Machine, CNC Lathe or CNC Horizontal Bore. CNC simply means an updated or new piece of equipment controlled by a computer program as opposed to the old fashioned "wheel and crank" machinery.
