A utility is provided that allows cylindrical compression springs made from round, square, rectangular, or elliptical wire to be designed. The code identifies package space requirements given acceptable load and wire stress characteristics.
The design approach can be applied to create initial profiles based on standard stress levels, these can then be refined to match available wire sizes and geometric limitations.
The spring load characteristics can be automatically updated into the static analysis section to provide a closed loop between the spring design and the cam profile layout.
The scale spring drawing allows the spring to be viewed with the correct number of active coils at the major design length conditions, (i.e. free, fitted, intermediate, max lift and solid). The spring design can also be shown correctly positioned in the mechanism display again supporting the concept of a closed loop design package .
Spring properties can be exported to ADAMS/Engine TM via the standard Teimorbit format to support the dynamic analysis phase of the design process.
