3.65 - What's this?

POSH is Datawest's proprietary system for handling large networks of POS terminals and dial-up ATMs. Much more than simply supporting the transaction flow from these devices, POSH is designed to provide a complete solution for the management of the relationship between the bank/switch and the merchant. POSH handles fees, settlement, interchange, cryptography and a variety of reporting and analysis tasks. POSH is used by some of the largest banks in the hemisphere and is the centrepiece of TCS's own network in Canada - POSHnet.

The Datawest POS Device and ATM Mangement System (POSH) software makes it easy and inexpensive for institutions to operate any size network of credit, debit and PIN-based debit authorization terminals - POS terminals or dial-up ATMs. This is aided by POSH's ability to operate using a variety of terminal products to provide fast debit card and credit card transaction support. POSH is a well designed family of client-server applications running on IBM's OS/2 or Microsoft's Windows and sharing a core set of databases. Any combination of the applications can be installed independently, but if more than one are installed, they will automatically become aware of each other and work compatible. POSH will manage your transaction authorizations and terminals, as well as your draft capture needs, all in a standard PC for low cost of ownership.
Transaction Processing
POSH Message Processor is an ideal product for connecting and managing your network of merchant POS terminals. It looks after transaction routing, PIN security, and daily terminal operations. A POSH network structure can be flexible - POSH can be located at a branch site, at head office, in a data centre or a merchant premises.

All of the management functions required to run your point of sale network can be accessed centrally at the transaction processing and draft capture host computers. However, using the Terminal Management System, you can securely distribute the management of your POSH network and remotely manipulate nearly all of the available POSH management functions such as: merchant initialization, merchant terminal configuration and definition, card limit processing parameters, voice authorization, key injection and much, much more.
This product also allows authorized personnel to access POSH management functions from LAN or WAN attached personal computers. In addition to the basic functions, it allows:

- The message interface to multiple types of dial-up ATMs - including the market leaders: Triton, Tidel, Diebold, NCR and Cross
- Communications support for all the needed dial protocols
- Additional database elements to support these machines (including editing and reporting)
- Vendor-specific features to provide State of Health and cash position information for certain machines. Key Injection Management System
POSH now allows automated real-time dynamic key injection system from a remote site via the internet. It eliminates the need for multiple key custodians, reduces the key injection process from about 30 minutes to 7 seconds, and produces random key generation using a hardware encryption device. This reduces errors and increases security significantly.
