Fault Manager is an expert system that provides test engineers with a new;weapon in the fight to provide a comprehensive test suite to manufacturing;and defect analysis teams. Test engineers can now be confident in their;ability to fault simulate a chip without jepardizing the schedule, because;Fault Manager just gave them a 5X performance boost over the OLD way of;doing fault simulation.;Fault Manager is not a fault simulator, it's a controlling process over the;top of the fault simulator. Through analysis of the tests and circuit,;it determines which tests to fault simulate first, and which undetected faults to;run against each test. Imagine a tool that knows which faults would be;likely be detected by a given test and only fault simulates those faults;for that test. By excluding the not detectable faults from the test, the;amount of fault simulation effort is significantly reduced. This is what;the Fault Manager does. Similarly, the Fault Manager determines the most;comprehensive tests and fault simulates those tests first. By detecting;these faults first, they don't need to be simulated by later tests, which;further reduces the simulation effort. It can accept;both functional tests and scan-based tests for the same chip. It can also;isolate testing to particular functional blocks within a chip.
