Additional Product Information
Introduction;Tropics® is a fully integrated, multi-company, client/server workers' compensation management system. It is an ideal system for any insurance company, self-insured group, or other WC administrator. The system is developed to use Microsoft Windows® (95) 98/NT and Oracle®.;Client Interface Design; The system adheres to Windows standards and standards developed by the USA Systems Group for database maintenance. Tropics offers a consistent and intuitive graphical user interface using visual displays such as tool bars and tab forms, thus providing a single screen interface to all related functions and/or transactions of a policy.;Database Design; The database model is designed through Entity Relationship methods thoroughly modeling a comprehensive WC business by defining data items, relations, and integrity rules. (The model can be mapped into several commercial databases such as Oracle, Sybase, SQL Server, MS Access, etc.);General System Features;Multi-Company;Multiple companies (accounts/groups) may be established in a single installation of Tropics. Therefore, insurance entities, service companies, or TPA's may process WC policies of several different companies/groups in the system.;Processes and reports can be tailored to each company/group through configuration tables, making the system extremely versatile and adaptable. ;Once a company is established, all activities related to that company will be tracked by Tropics. When a user signs on to the system, he/she will be prompted to select a company. A user may switch between companies while within the system. ;Multi-State;The system is designed to store data necessary for WC processing by state. Rate tables, zip code tables, and other data are segregated by state. Tropics can rate polices across several states. The user-defined rates per class code, credits and debits (such as safety credit), or schedule credits and debits may be configured by the user to accommodate a specific filing for companies who file their own rates. As such, the system may be configured by users to rate according to state bureau or NCCI prescribed rating schema. ;Scaleable Multi-User;Through Client/Server technology and scaleable database servers, Tropics can be scaled for use in a small company of few users to a medium or large sized company with many users. As the number of users grows, the database engine needs to be scaled up to meet the demand. The front-end interface, however, will not change with the increased size of the database engine. Therefore, Tropics can grow with the company, with incremental investment in hardware and software without the need for conversion or additional training.;Interactive, Real Time Processing;Unlike most traditional insurance systems, Tropics processes user requests immediately (on-line transaction processing, not through a nightly batch run). Activities such as rating policies, invoicing, cash processing and posting are processed in real time. Furthermore, security and integrity are not sacrificed for on-line processing. Intermediate unposted batches are created, proved by the user, and then processed and posted.;Security ;An elaborate user authorization system secures Tropics options -- processes, menus, command buttons, etc. -- to a user. Through user group setup and assignment of options to groups, a user inherits all the options of the group or groups to which he/she is associated. A sophisticated and easy-to-use security management system provides options for creating groups, assigning processes to groups, adding users, assigning users to groups, and other necessary administrative functions for the system security.
