The Data Assistant easily convert text reports into databases for Microsoft Excel Pivot Tables.
Typically reports loaded into Excel have columns of data, where the columns represent time periods, such as months, and the rows contain descriptions of the data in the rows. Unfortunately, such a data layout is very difficult to use in pivot tables. You end up having to put many individual data fields into the pivot table, and can not work with them as a group. And, you can not use some of the powerful features of pivot tables.
The Data Assistant is a menu driven add-in that converts the data into the form best used by pivot tables. For example, if you have many columns of monthly data, this is converted into just two columns, one containing the month name and one containing the data. If rows contain different types of data, such as sales dollars and sales quantity, the data is placed into separate columns, which is the best way to arrange pivot table data.
