Additional Product Information
H.A. EchoStream™ Data Replication Software is a storage management solution that provides automatic real-time replication of data. It runs on servers, computers, internal storage devices, Network Attached Storage devices, Storage Area Networks or arrays as long as they can execute a Java virtual machine under Java(r) 2, version 1.2.2 or higher.
Whenever data files are updated on a source (primary) server or device, the software replicates those same files onto a destination (secondary or backup) server or device. Thus, the destination server or device functions as a "mirrored" device that is always available for immediate failover if the source server fails. System administrators can use this configuration instead of a tape backup system while having the added advantage of immediate access to their backup data.
The software also keeps both devices synchronized bi-directionally. This allows the client to set up a pair of servers or devices where each server or device functions as a source server or device for certain workgroups and simultaneously functions as a destination server or device for other workgroups.
Since the software replicates data in real-time, there is no difference in the data stored on each server or device. If one server or device fails, the customer merely switches to the other server or device and continues working while having the first server or device repaired or replaced. When the server or device is repaired, the software will resynchronize both devices.
The benefits of this product include:
- Supports data replication between servers, storage devices or computers running Java® 2, version 1.2.2 or higher and configured as a Java virtual machine.
- Protects customer data files and databases against catastrophic loss by replicated in real time data from a primary server to one or more secondary (backup) servers.
- Ensures a current copy of the customer's data is always available for immediate access.
- Provides a local backup by replicating over a LAN or a remote backup by replicating over a WAN.
- Synchronizes servers or devices at installation.
- Resynchronizes servers or devices after repair or replacement of a failed disk device.
- Avoids latency problems inherent in tape backups.
- Has easy installation and configuration.
- Can be combined with H.A. Clusters ™ High Availability Clustering Software to create an extremely high availability system.
- After switchover (in high availability versions), automatically transfers users to destination (secondary) server or device.
- In file server versions, includes bi-directional replication that lets customer set up two devices that each functions as a backup for the other.
- In file server versions, provides three methods of data replication: continuous (real-time), scheduled (at specified intervals) and on-demand.
- In database versions, provides option for scheduled snapshots that provide added protection if the database is ever corrupted.
- In file server versions, replicates only the directories (folders) specified by the customer.
- In file server versions, excludes files from replication based on file prefixes or extensions specified by the customer.
