COMMS
This suite enables the file transmission in a fully transparent way for the user. It also keeps the user informed at every time on the transmission state at every time (pages/ texts to be received, texts received, transmission starting time, reception time, etc.); it frees the workstation from which the file is sent, and it reduces transmission times and costs.

Additional Product Information
In a corporate editorial environment, all matters related to communications are extremely important. COMMS is a complete suite of solutions aimed to meet document transmission requirements, making communications serve the editorial workflow.
As all the other MILENIUM Cross Media suites, COMMS reaches an optimum level of integration with MILENIUM, but it can also work in a completely independent way with any editorial solution.
?COMMS enables the publishing company to genuinely integrate communications into its workflow?
?Transparency in communications means major operating advantages?
?Controlling the transmission costs has great commercial significance?
Alarms and hands-off processes
COMMS provides hands-off coordination and management of all the processes related to communications. It has alarm systems for reporting the non-fulfillment of any of the conditions established by default and, working together with MILENIUM, it enables the launch of processes on the basis of production conditions that have been fulfilled by the different contents. Thus, for example, it would be possible to determine that a plate must be automatically sent to certain printing centers once it has been completed and verified by the person in charge.
Transmission optimization
All data are compressed at origin and decompressed at destination before and after each transmission, by means of non-destructive algorithms based on ZIP standards. Once data have been compressed, the file is automatically transmitted to the chosen destination, and the user receives all the information about the transmission characteristics and state. It also allows the programming of dispatch times, with the aim of optimizing transmission costs by using the carrier?s off-peak hours. For this purpose, the solution provides quick schedules management, through which the different people in charge may establish the different hours and different kind of days that may exist.
Destination management.
COMMS allows the user to configure as many destinations and kind of lines as desired. Depending on the destination characteristics, the user may determine that the dispatch must be made via FTP, e-mail, point to point, RDSI, frame relay, etc. In the same way, the different printing queues that can exist in the network may be registered. Each type of process is assigned to one of the server?s ?hot folders?, that contains all the parameters assigned to that specific destination.
From and operating point of view, users only have to ?drag and drop? into the corresponding folder the files they want to send or print. Thanks to its design, COMMS takes care of this task, immediately freeing the operator?s work station so that he may continue working.
Logically, each user performs these operations according to the privileges assigned. Thus, the properties and characteristics assigned to each folder can only be modified by people having the required authorization.
Specially useful for remote printing centers or, in general, for multiple destinations that must receive the same files, is COMMS? ability for carrying out as many simultaneous transmissions as required by means of a single order.
States and costs control
Knowing in real time the different tasks state and having an accurate knowledge of the costs produced by the transmissions are some other interesting possibilities offered by COMMS.
All the information provided on each task is exhaustive: number of works in the queue, their source, transmission starting time, their progress state, priority, file size, time remaining before the transmission ends... All these details can also be consulted from an historical point of view by filtering the information according to different criteria.
It is also really interesting for the company to know the costs that communications represent. COMMS provides very accurate estimations of these costs, and it offers the possibility of filtering the information according to the following criteria: by time periods, by kind of line or destination, by Mbyte transmitted, by line occupation time, etc.
Communication between MILENIUMs
When communication takes place between solutions belonging to the MILENIUM suite, COMMS speeds up the dialogues between source and destination databases, achieving a significant increase in operating speed. This communication may take place both between geographically distributed MILENIUM solutions and between them and the laptops of external reporters or collaborators.
The full integration within the MILENIUM Cross Media products interface provides a transparency in the files exchange between remote MILENIUMs, as well as the production of documents by output peripherals and their transmission to the printing centers.
