Additional Product Information

evolveIT - Technical;Specifications Overview;evolveIT is an;enterprise-level application that runs in Windows NT environments. It;has been designed to allow IT departments within organizations to:;;Discover information about their;legacy COBOL applications and database software assets;Inventory the discovered information;Analyze the information for greater;understanding;;Users at Windows NT;workstations use the tools provided by evolveIT to visually;browse, analyze, report and gain understanding of discovered program;code and database elements. This is achieved by using one of two;workbenches; the Discovery Workbench, for the discovery and capture of;COBOL source code, and the Analyst Workbench for viewing and analysis of;discovered information.;The Discovery Workbench -;Typically, users of the Discovery Workbench would consist of small teams;of support engineers who initiate discovery on suites of COBOL programs.;The results of the discovery are then exported to an inventory or number;of inventories located on a central file server, ready for analysis by;COBOL and business analysts.;Large sets of COBOL code;can be distributed for processing between any number of NT workstations;for immediate discovery, or if required, a scheduled discovery can be;initiated during out of office hours.;The discovery process is best described;as follows:;;Reading the Program Source Code?evolveIT;builds the programs to be discovered by collating the source;programs and any included copy files into expanded programs. It is;the expanded programs that are discovered and from which program,;copy file, and schema usage information is derived.;Parsing the Program Source Code? The;expanded program is passed through a syntax analyzer and is;separated into syntactical components. Any syntax errors or missing;copy files are identified at this stage.;Building the Design Database? The;discovered syntactical components are passed through another;analyzer which creates a semantic model. The semantic model is a;collection of the discovered assets and their relationships.;Storing the Results in an Inventory? The;semantic model can be stored in one or more inventories. evolveIT;operates on the model only and no further reference is made to the;source code. The detail of the semantic model is such that the;entire original source can be created from it.;;Platforms Supported - The following;system types and languages are currently supported:;;;;Platform;;COBOL 74;;COBOL 85;;Database;;TP;;;;Unisys HMP NX;;;;;;DMSII (XE);;COMS;;;;Unisys HMP IX;;;;;;DMS, RDMS;;TIP, H/TIP;;;;IBM;;;;;;DB2 (v5 and below);;CICS (v4 and below);;;;DEC-VAX;;;;;;Oracle SQL; ;;;;Bull;;;;;;SQL; ;;;The Analyst Workbench ?;Users of the Analyst Workbench typically consist of COBOL analysts and;business analysts alike, who use the tool for the detailed viewing and;analysis of discovered assets.;The Analyst Workbench;enables an analyst to work on an inventory containing a complete suite;of discovered assets, or if preferred, a sub-set of the same suite.;Additionally, assets contained on one or more inventories can be;accessed and shared either locally or across a network.;Viewing of discovered;assets is achieved through a number of powerful viewing tools each;providing a unique and detailed view of the inventory contents as;follows:;;The Inventory Viewer ? Visual;analysis of the links and dependencies between elements that are;contained within an inventory, showing in great detail those;elements that are selected and those that are either referenced,;read, written, or updated.;;;The System Viewer ? Elaborate and;accurate view at system level of the data flow between all programs,;database, and file elements, displaying both textual reports and;detailed diagrams.;;;The Program Viewer ? Viewing of;detailed reports and diagrams on selected programs to assist in the;creation of accurate search criteria for an interactive analysis;(Match and Slice) to be performed.;;;Impact Analysis Viewer ? Accurate;reports showing in detail lines of COBOL code impacted during;analysis enabling analysts to clearly identify compliant and;non-compliant code. Views of elements affected by the impact of;change to programs or copybooks.;;;The Job Viewer ? Detailed graphical;views showing the hierarchical format of job executions. Input and;output of dataflows with automatic referencing capability.;;;The Screen Viewer ? Complete view of;screen displays of mapsets and maps used for everyday transaction;related processing identifying errors in syntax and variable type;fields.;;;System Pre-Requisites;;;;Hardware;;Discovery Workbench;;Analyst Workbench;;;;Processor;;Pentium II or III, minimum 450MHz,;recommended 700MHz;;Pentium II or III, minimum 450MHz,;recommended 700Mhz;;;;RAM;;Minimum, 128MB ? recommended,;256MB;;Minimum, 128MB ? recommended,;256MB;;;;Graphics card;;Must be capable of 16 bit working,;supporting 64k colors.;;Must be capable of 16 bit working,;supporting 64k colors.;;;;Hard Disk;;Minimum, 1GB ? recommended 10 GB;;Minimum, 100 MB ? recommended 1;GB;;;;Printer;;Any NT supported printer; ;;;;Monitor;;17 Inch with a minimum resolution;800 * 600.;;17 Inch with a minimum resolution;1024 * 768 ? recommended 1280 * 1024.;;;;CD ROM; ; ;;;;Software; ; ;;;;Operating System;;NT 4 with Service Pack 4;;NT 4 with Service Pack 4;;;;Other Pre-requisites;;IE5, plus Service Pack 1;;IE5, plus Service Pack 1;;;;Text Editor;;A text editor that handles large;files, e.g., Wordpad.
