Base/1 Internet Server by Base One International Corporation

4.01 - What's this?

Use Base One Internet Server's "Rich Client" architecture to build complex database applications that run seamlessly over the Internet or your corporate intranet or client/server environment. These applications bypass slow-footed browser technology by using the Microsoft Windows interface while still letting you include a browser under your program's control. Data requests across the Internet are handled automatically by the Internet Server, and programming is done with standard Visual C++ and MFC, plus BFC (Base One's Foundation Class Library).

Additional Product Information

Base/1 Internet Server; Some of the most interesting, potentially lucrative Internet business applications require access to valuable, proprietary databases consisting of a large, relatively static part and a small, highly dynamic part. On-line catalogs, auctions, software help systems, and magazine archives are some examples of these kinds of applications. ;;The Base/1 Internet Server (BIS) offers the easiest possible path for migrating from client/server to robust, high-performance, 3-tier applications. Running on any Windows PC (95, 98, or NT), it takes full advantage of end user PCs by eliminating the dependence on browsers and going straight to the standardized, built-in, communication functions of Microsoft Windows, the same level of core communications interfaces used in Netscape Navigator, Eudora Pro, and most other serious Internet products that run on PCs.;;This "Rich Client" architecture lets programmers build superb, highly graphical, Internet applications. By avoiding the browser/web server combination, BIS lets all application code reside where it is used. All code can sit on the end user's computer and can run with or without BIS. When communication across the Internet or corporate intranet is required, messages containing blocks of database and transaction processing requests and results are automatically sent to and from the Internet Server, without additional programming.;;BIS makes it possible to store data anywhere, whether across the corporate intranet or LAN or across the globe via the Internet, without making life more complicated for users and programming staff. Evolving a client/server application built on BFC into an Internet-enabled BIS application is practically as simple as turning on a switch. There's no costly re-implementation and no major re-education of the user community. Instead of dividing programmers into two camps, BIS keeps them on the same team with familiar tools.
