INTENS solves two kinds of problems. It allows rapid application development and it integrates other programs and products. Both goals can be achieved by a description language. The combination of INTENS and a description is the application! INTENS reads the description at startup and performs the application as described. INTENS provides standardized and 'state of the art' GUI elements. These elements appear automatically or may be declared explicitely. It follows the motto: "You can configure it but leave it to INTENS where appropriate". Any program written in 3rd generation languages may be integrated in a purely declarative way. No compilation process and no specific library is necessary. INTENS incorporates all necessary connectivity functions (e. g. stdio, stdout, named pipes, files, product related protocols). The quantity of work to integrate a program is limited to few lines of declaration (path/name of program, data interface, command line arguments, GUI-Button association). INTENS allows the integration of Oracle databases. SQL statements and stored procedures may be called within an INTENS description., INTENS allows the configuration of functions to validate user inputs. Inside of functions procedural language elements are available. Different levels of help text configuration are available. Each GUI element may have its specific help text line. GUI frames may have help windows or may be hyper-linked to a browser which provides entire help documents. INTENS contains language support. All built-in and user defined strings may be extracted into a language relevant file and can be translated. The translation is under the customer's control. Various fonts and symbols can be inserted at any place of the GUI., INTENS has a built-in data consistency check. Whenever an external program returns new data INTENS marks these as result of the recent input in the GUI. Any change of a parameter in a GUI element lets INTENS warn the user that input and result data differ and are no longer consistent., INTENS provides a high variability of application configuration. It definitely saves development time. Experienced INTENS users can develop a sophisticated application within a week where others need a month!
