Z supports 13 operating systems and dozens of file structures and databases including: Oracle, Sybase, Informix, SQL Server, Access, Foxpro, XBASE, Btrieve, Microfocus COBOL, RM/COBOL, AcuCOBOL..just to name a few. ;System Z enables programmers to create portable UNIX, NT, Windows and WEB based applications very quickly. ;System Z is also unique in giving 4GL benefits immediately. With capabilities to read and write most native files, and auto-configuration from COBOL source, many 4GL tools such as application generators and query modules are available within a day of initial installation.;The System Z 4GL includes data dictionary, interactive compiler, integrated debugger, and many other tools for extremely fast software development. Applications developed with System Z are extremely portable, all the way down to compiled code.;Optional tools for client-server operation make multiple platforms interoperable. Client-server operation does not require RDBMS or SQL (although both are supported), and is implemented for high efficiency.
