What makes Tamino XML Server so powerful?
-------------------------------------------
Thanks to a comprehensive offering of services, Tamino XML Server can be adapted to virtually all user requirements and be employed for a multitude of purposes, thus finding its place right in the heart of Web-based or Web-enabling IT infrastructures. The larger the amount of information received and stored in XML format, the greater the benefit for any organization adopting XML technology, and in particular Tamino XML Server. Besides storing XML documents natively, Tamino XML Server provides access and an XML view to content residing in external data sources, has a fully customizable functionality and handles other semi-structured and unstructured data types such as images, video and audio streams, as well. Furthermore, Tamino XML Server is available on all major operating systems, with new enhancements providing benefits for companies of all sizes:
• Low cost of ownership due to reduced resource requirements and easily re-usable assets
• Higher productivity and efficiency in application development thanks to easy-to-use interfaces, tools and functionalities based on open standards
• Reduced operational risk through advanced features that promote scalability, reliability and high-availability
• Increased performance due to faster document updates, clustering, etc.
• Protection of sensitive company data thanks to advanced security features
The mentioned services include functionality and solutions from Software AG, partners and members of the publicly accessible Tamino Developer Community alike. Beyond the Tamino core services, providing basic XML server and database functionality, the system allows to protect your IT investments made in the past by offering services for XML-based access to external database systems (Tamino X-Node).
Other services available are, for example, a service for XML Digital Signatires, XML-Schema aware schema editors, a WebDAV server, many APIs for Java- and .NET-based applications, Clustering and Replication Services, and more....
The most noticeable key to success is Tamino's principle of storing XML documents natively. Doing so has enormous performance and scalability advantages over relational database management systems (RDBMSs), since no extra data conversion layer is required as, for example, needed for XML-enabled RDBMSs and the document structure is kept intact. All in all, Tamino's concept gives users an unlimited portfolio of highly scalable services at their fingertips.
A High-Performance Server Core
Tamino XML Server is built upon an internal XML-Engine for direct storage, integration and exchange of XML. The XML-Engine is a small and extremely fast kernel technology that is able to process XML, allowing to perform dynamic changes in the format of a data stream for further processing (i.e. different types of data, such as relational data, graphics, sound, video or plain text), based on the embedded metadata (by virtue of XML tags). The engine accepts XML objects as input, offers XML objects as output and provides W3C XQuery functionality, as well as Tamino X-Query, a core service for querying stored data based on the familiar XML Path Language (XPath). Furthermore, Tamino allows to directly update single document elements thanks to its new Node-Level-Update facility, and it combines native XML technology with sophisticated indexing technologies and full-text retrieval capabilities to give users the industry's highest "find speed" on XML-encoded documents with minimal hardware and software investments involved. It goes without saying that central interactive administration of multiple local and remote servers can be carried out from multiple locations via a GUI that runs on standard Web browsers.
