Established in 1996, PROVISIO GmbH (the name stands "for visions") received their first major order from electronics giant MEDIA MARKT early in 1997. Back then, PROVISIO developed multi-media applications based on Microsoft's Internet Explorer (Version 3), which was capable of showing some basic information about the hardware components of a PC. Using the application on the company's public display terminals, customers learned more about the different components of the computers. Shortly afterwards, PROVISIO completed a similar project for the electronics chain SATURN.
In addition to providing multi-media functionality, the application to be installed on the terminals also had to prevent customers from tampering with the machines' underlying operating system. To provide this necessary security, PROVISIO developed a first version of a kiosk software application. This first prototype became the base for the development of SiteKiosk, which was released for the first time in 1998. Due to the product's large national and international success, PROVISIO decided in mid-1999 to further develop SiteKiosk in cooperation with a steady team of developers. In addition, PROVISIO abandoned all other business segments such as the development of Web sites and other multi-media applications.
Since March 2000 the SiteKiosk Development Team is now working in a modern office complex in Münster with more than 350 square meter of office space.
In July 2002 the company PROVISIO, LLC, was founded in Miami, FL, to establish SiteKiosk on the most important North American market.
In 2003 SiteKiosk received awards as "Software Design Excellence" and "Most Innovative/Creative Software 2003."
With more than 50,000 copies installed on computers world-wide, SiteKiosk ranks among the most commonly employed "Public Access Terminal Software" products. PROVISIO currently has a team of 14 employees in Germany and the United States.
